Start with a long and meandering climb to Minam Summit and a fun wide descent down to the river. After crossing the Minam River, the road winds along the Joseph River. You might want your fishing pole with you. This stretch of road has many blind corners to ride cautiously. Once it opens into the valley around Wallowa it gets much safer. If you're riding as an out and back, you may want to note distances with Minam 13, Wallowa at 26 (Marathon?), and Lostine 34. Minam is important to note for a water stop. There are some spigots on the pump house immediately off the highway (of which they've been very kind to green light cyclists on) or drop into the store if it is open. I also like stopping at Little Bear Drive-in for a milk shake in Wallowa.
