This trail tantalizes with the most iconic view of Eagle Cap as you enter a long glacial meadow heading toward the Lakes Basin up the Lostine east fork. The trail is well used and the quickest access into this popular basin. The trail starts mellow and then has a couple bouts of switchbacks before spilling out into the good stuff for a peaceful stroll the rest of the way.
Mirror Lake presides in the Lakes Basin Management Area of the Eagle Cap Wilderness and is nestled along base of the north-northeastern side of Eagle Cap peak. The lake is accessed on East Fork Lostine Trail #1662, which is also the access trail for Eagle Cap Summit, from Two Pan Trailhead. To get to the trailhead, you'll have to take Upper Lostine Rd. 11 miles south of the town, Lostine, to arrive at the parking area. Parking cost $5, or a Northwest Forest Pass is required. While all the lakes in the Lakes Basin offer beautiful, scenic landscapes, Mirror Lake is the first water body on the trail and is thought to be the most mesmeric. Lake Creek flows continuously through Upper (west of Mirror Lake), Mirror, and Moccasin Lakes.
Moccasin Lake can also be accessed following this same trail, but you have to follow the Lakes Basin Trail #1810, before it turns into the Moccasin Trail #1810A to the east for just over 1/2 mile.
