Trail Description

This short trail is a more direct route off Mt. Fanny to Moss Springs that bypasses all the switchbacks on the 6220 road. As a bonus it takes you right by Vinny Viewpoint, where an old structure foundation sits offering a very nice panorama to the south. The top of the trail travels along an old bermed-off road and there is an old white carsonite sign marking the viewpoint. The lower part also appears to be an old road or fire control line.

The bottom entrance starts above the corrals at Moss Springs Campground and is unmarked. It travels over to an open rock scab overlooking the Little Minam. There is a trail intersection option there for an unofficial trail heading out to Huckleberry Ridge. To continue to Vinny Viewpoint, the trail wraps back left to stay on the ridge and continue climbing up to the viewpoint. Before arriving at the viewpoint there is a side trail that spurs to the right and goes over to a nice meadow in Horseshoe Basin. You will stay left at this intersection and soon go past the viewpoint. The trail then traverses toward the 6220 road and spits you out at a scrubbed out entrance.

If you are traveling south on the 6220 road and looking for the top entrance to this trail, while descending you will be looking for the trail just after the first right-hand switchback. A short distance after the switchback that the trail takes off to a left (look for a "V" blazed on a tree).
