The selling point of this trip is the easy roadside access on the plowed road up to Anthony Lakes. The terrain is very nice too, although coverage can be sketchy at times, and perhaps that is why they moved the ski area from here (Little Alps) to farther up the hill (Anthony Lakes). The old lodge is still at the parking and they use this area for plowing services on the road. That means it is one of the only places you can park on the way up to Anthony Lakes. Look for the sign for Van Patten Lake Trail and take a left on the plowed road and drive a few hundred feet up to a parking area.
The route here shows you how to get on the ridge above the lake heading up toward Van Patten Peak. You can decide your ski options from here. This is also a good snowshoe route for a scenic winter tour.
