This rugged spur off the Main Eagle Trail takes you up to Eagle Lake. It includes a few switchbacks but otherwise is an epic traverse across a gnarly slope of Needle Point. You can see the finish for most of the route as it delivers you to a barren pit that houses Eagle Lake. You arrive at the man-made dam where the trail ends, although there are some trails along the perimeter of the lake. It is one of the larger lakes in the Eagle Cap but doesn't offer a lot of opportunity for camping because of the steep slopes and permanent campfire ban.
The trail starts at a trail junction 6 miles up the Main Eagle Trail. There is a stream near this junction and also one about halfway up the trail that will flow during snow melt.
